The Diamond Formation

Let’s start with the diamond shape, as we all know how it looks like. Our point is to get the ball to the other side, near to the opponent goal, or find an open player that should get the ball the closest possible to the opponent goal.

In this case, we can achieve what the technical staff wants, three passing directions. Teams, who control the midfield, have the highest chances of winning due to the diverse moves and plays that they can find thanks to the diamond formation.

Transitioning to 8v8

After understanding how the diamond formation works, we move on to larger fields and teams. The formation 8v8 is the same but with more diamonds (2-3-2).

The formation allows you to easily bring the ball close to the opponent’s goal box, and if you can’t do it like this, you can look to both sides and try for one of the sides to move the ball forward. If it’s not possible, you can go back and try with the other side.

The diamond formation is essential for our players, as they have to learn how to find open spaces, while maintaining the shape, solving the problem of grouping around the ball. They will understand that being far from the ball is also important for the team.
